SUMMARY:Merchant Navy Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:The principal Merchant Navy Day service in the UK takes place at the national Merchant Navy Memorial in Trinity Square Gardens on Tower Hill at 12.30pm on Sunday\, 4 September.\nOrganised by the Merchant Navy Association\, it is held there each year on the Sunday immediately following 3 September\, Merchant Navy Day. \nThe memorial bears the names of 35\,842 merchant seafarers\, men and women\, civilians all\, from the First and Second World Wars\, together with the Falklands Campaign for whom there is no grave but the sea. It is in the care of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. \nA Royal Marine Band will accompany the service. A reading is given of a first-hand account\, different on each occasion\, of an action involving a ship and its crew named on the memorial. In marking the centenary\, from 2014 to 2018 the readings relate to actions in the First World War. \n
