Merchant Navy Day 2017

Merchant Navy Day 2017

At the Merchant Navy Memorial at Tower Hill, London, a band of hardy, and aging, seafarers assembled and their Standard Bearers had moments of challenge in the gusting wind. Accompanied by the Band of HM Royal Marines Collingwood and in the presence of the First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Philip Jones and the National President of The Merchant Navy Association Admiral Lord West, we remembered 100th anniversary of the Convoy system, 75th anniversary of Dunkirk and 35 years since the Falklands War.

The welcome address to this Commemorative Service and Reunion was delivered by the Deputy Commodore of the RFA, Captain Sam Shattock. The RFA Association was represented by both our National and London Standard Bearers. Wreaths were separately laid on behalf of the RFAA Nationally, on behalf of the London Branch and for our colleagues in Malta.
