The London Branch of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Association will be presenting a trophy to the best London Division Sea Cadet for Excellence in Seamanship.
The presentation for the Seamanship Trophy was held on Sunday 20th November 2016 at HMS President and presented to the Edmonton Unit
The Royal Fleet Auxiliary Association – London Branch, are delighted to present this trophy and to be associated with the London Division Sea Cadets.
It is felt by the branch that we are encouraging and supporting these young men and women throughout the London Division of the Sea Cadets.
Criteria for the Trophy:
Each and every sea cadet within the organisation is taught seamanship at a basic level, with many choosing to further their understanding of the subject by taking part in more advanced levels of training, which usually lead to the award of a qualification.
There are currently three different levels of qualification which cadets can work towards – basic, intermediate and advanced. Every qualification gained is recorded on our database.
For the unit seamanship award, it is proposed a simple count of qualifications gained in a twelve month period by cadets in each unit, and producing a qualification per cadet figure, with the highest score winning the trophy.
This would allow us to use information already recorded, and in such a way as to not disadvantage those units with fewer cadets.
We will each year, look at our records of seamanship qualifications awarded to cadets at each unit and present this trophy to the unit with the most qualifications per cadet for the preceding year.
